According to KTVU, Golden State Warriors C Marreese Speights was the victim of an attempted robbery early Monday morning outside of a nightclub in San Francisco.
Speights was leaving the Cellar on Sutter Street and heading to his car when a group approached him and demanded he hand over his gold chains. One of the men pointed a gun at Speights, who fled the scene and escaped unharmed.
Police later arrested the gunman, who they identified as convicted felon Michael Lamont Jackson. Speights played 17 minutes in Golden State's game against Oklahoma City Monday night, going 1-8 from the field and finishing with 6 points and 6 rebounds. The Warriors won the game 117-91.
Speights is averaging a career-high 12.6 points in 18.1 minutes per game this season, and he's also shooting a career-best .533 from the field. According to ESPN's Player Efficiency Ratings, Speights is the 16th-most efficient player in the NBA this season, ahead of players like Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, Chris Bosh and Tim Duncan. Speights rebounded from his off night Monday with a 18-point effort on 8-12 shooting against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
Golden State plays Cleveland Friday in search of their sixth consecutive win.
