Warriors News: Andrew Bogut Out Indefinitely After Undergoing Knee Procedure

Andrew Bogut's recovery from a knee injury suffered against Minnesota on December 8 hasn't gone to plan, and now the Golden State Warriors center is out indefinitely after undergoing a procedure that aims to alleviate painful swelling in his knee.

Bogut was originally mis-diagnosed with tendinitis, which led to him participating in team activities and warmups that actually made his condition worse. The updated diagnosis, knee chondromalacia and bone edema, is a more serious condition. When Bogut tried to warm up for Golden State's game against New Orleans on December 14, he re-aggravated the injury, leading to the updated diagnosis.

The procedure Bogut underwent, known as platelet-rich plasma therapy, is similar to what Kobe Bryant underwent in the offseason, and Warriors SF Andre Iguodala also had PRP treatment to help with a similar problem over the summer.

Bogut is averaging 7.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks so far this season, and has been a major part of Golden State's record-setting 21-3 start. Houston Rockets C Dwight Howard also underwent PRP treatment this season, and was out 11 games before returning.

If Bogut recovers at the same rate as Howard did, a return for Golden State's January 9th game against Cleveland could be possible, but players recover at different speeds and there's currently no way to set a firm return date for the Warriors big man.
