On October 31, 2012 the Warriors made a four-year deal with Stephen Curry for $44 million dollars. With Curry constantly being sidelined due to his ankle injury, a four-year deal for $44 million dollars doesn’t seem like the smartest move for the Warriors to make.
Curry has shown that he is able to become a star player but with his lingering injury it seems that Curry’s ankle may make him more of a liability than anything. The Warriors should begin looking at Klay Thompson as their new leader. As we have seen Stephen Curry is a good fit as leader, but Thompson seems to be a promising candidate as well.
Thompson seems like he’s a leader already. He took the loss against the Denver Nuggets straight to the heart. Thompson was apparently so upset that he didn’t even bother changing out of his uniform before leaving the arena and ended up driving around for a few hours before pulling over to change. You don’t see Stephen Curry that distraught over a loss. The fact that Thompson was so distraught just proves what a good leader Thompson will be.
He averages 16.7 points per game, 2.1 assists, and 5 rebounds. He’s a well-rounded player. If Curry ends up not being able to lead the Warriors, Thompson will be more than ready to step up to take the position.
