Warriors, Klay Thompson Agree To Max Extension

The Golden State Warriors and shooting guard Klay Thompson have finally agreed on a 4-year maximum contract extension worth around $70 million.

Thompson had been asking for the max extension during the offseason, but Warriors owner Joe Lacob was originally unwilling to give him that much money.

Thompson had been the center of trade talks revolving around Kevin Love, which fell apart because of Golden State's unwillingness to deal their sharpshooter.

The Warriors now have secured one of the best backcourts in the league for the foreseeable future, pairing him with All-Star Stephen Curry. Thompson averaged 18.4 ppg last year and made more three-points shots in his first three season than anyone else in NBA history.

Both sides had until midnight Friday night to reach an agreement on an extension, and now will keep Thompson from becoming a restricted free agent this summer.
