Yesterday at 4pm the Western and Eastern All-Star reserves were announced on TNT. As they called out the Western reserves they announced that only one more reserve was to be named without any of the warriors being named prior. David Lee is the Warriors first All Star in 16 years!
It was a bittersweet moment for warriors' fans when Lee's name was announced. We have been waiting for this day to happen, but what happened to Curry? Both Lee and Curry are more than deserving to be an All Star. They have lead the Warriors to victory this season and have proven that they are truly all stars.
This year, like every year there were the same names with a few new. It's like what coach Mark Jackson said, "We fall in love with names." It's nice to see these outstanding players playing in the All-Stars but they don't take the time to look at these other players who are just as good. Fans vote for the most popular players, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Chris Paul, and Dwight Howard. They all deserve it but we've seen them play over and over again. It'd be nice to give other players a chance.
As for the coaches picks for the reserve team, I'm going to have to agree with Charles Barkley when he stated that he was so pissed off his head was going to explode. Me too Charles, me too. I think everyone was shocked when Curry was not announced on Thursday. Twitter exploded with shocked fans and even people who aren't big fans of the warriors were shocked. He is more than deserving of the role. Curry has been averaging 20.9 points per game and is the 8th leading scorer in the league.
The coaches chose people like Aldridge who is an outstanding player but has not been leading his team this year. We're able to see that through the Blazers wins and losses. If they are choosing people who aren’t necessarily on winning teams then Monta Ellis should have been chosen years ago! They choose people that they have always chosen, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and LaMarcus Aldridge. Luckily Curry is still young and he's going to become a better, stronger player as his career progresses. This year, he didn't make it but over his career we'll be seeing a lot of him in the All-Star games.
As for David Lee, Warriors’ fans our dreams have finally come true. After 16 years, the Warriors have an All-Star! Yes, it would have been nice to have both Curry and Lee in the All-Star game this year but we shouldn’t get too greedy. David Lee being picked for the All-Star was a given, but we thought that for Stephen Curry too. Lee averages 19.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Once the Warriors become a better-known team, we will be seeing a lot more Warriors in the All-Star game. For now, on February 17 we will watch as David Lee represents the Warriors in the 2013 All-Star game in Houston, Texas!
