Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago when Warriors guard Stephen Curry was assuring us that his ankle was back to normal? Curry injured his ankle against the Portland Trailblazers and has been pulled out as a “precaution” from the remaining preseason games. Don’t act like you’re surprised Warriors fans, Curry’s ankles seem to be made of glass.
On October 19, against the Portland Trailblazers, Curry ended up limping off of the court after injuring his ankle. To be honest, I was actually surprised. I wasn’t expecting to see him hurt his ankle until at least the regular season. According to Coach Jackson, Curry asked to go back into the game but was rejected and went into the locker room.
Shortly after the game Curry tweeted, “Ankle will be fine. Freak play. But Good win tonight…now on the way to LA.” So we should believe him…right?
Maybe? Curry said that he was ready earlier this year, but here we are discussing his ankle in the middle of preseason. Maybe it was a freak accident and maybe he will be back in perfect condition once regular season starts, but what if he isn’t? He seems to be rushing his recovery in order to get back onto the court. Yes, it’s appreciated but not when rushing back means another injury. Curry should take notes from Bogut and sit out for a while until he is positive that his ankle is healthy.
If Curry doesn’t realize the severity of his injuries then he may never fully recover. The Warriors might want to start looking for a new point guard. It would be remarkable if Curry’s ankles cooperated this season but he needs to take it slow. With so much of the Warriors future relying on Curry’s ankles, they may want to rely on something, or someone else.
Don’t get me wrong, Curry is an astonishing player and he will only become better as he gains experience in the NBA. But as of now, Curry should sit on the bench until his ankle is truly 100 percent.
Well Stephen Curry, you better shape up, cause we need a point guard and our heart is set on you!
