The Golden State Warriors have been able to hold onto the sixth seed in the Western Conference for the majority of the second half of the season. As of now they have a 41-32 record, the Warriors are only one game ahead of the Houston Rockets.
If the Warriors continue to succeed, they will be able to make the playoffs for the second time in 19 years. The Warriors need to stay in the sixth seed if they want a good chance at making it beyond the first round in this seasons playoffs.
The Warriors have made a handful of changes in order to make sure that the playoffs are possible for this season. Last season, the Warriors made a dramatic change by trading Monta Ellis. Ellis was the Warriors star player who was meant to lead the Warriors to the playoffs. After the trade that moved Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks, Stephen Curry became the leader of the Warriors.
Curry is one of the main reasons, if not the main reason for the Warriors success this season. At the beginning of the 2012-2013 season, Curry’s ankle was a reoccurring issue. After his second surgery on his right ankle this past summer, Curry promised that he would be back to 100%. Since the All-Star break, Curry has kept his word. He has averaged 25.6 points, 7.2 assists and four rebounds per game. The Warriors have become a winning team with Curry leading them.
As for the playoffs, the Warriors will most likely face the Denver Nuggets—third seed in the Western Conference—in the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Nuggets won the 2012-2013 season series 3-1. Luckily, there are still a few weeks left in the regular season. This means that the chance of the standings changing is very likely. Both the LA Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies are half a game behind the Denver Nuggets. The Warriors have not won a game against the Grizzlies this season, so they would not be favored if the Grizzlies take the Nuggets spot in third. As for the Clippers, if they are able to take third place from the Nuggets, the Warriors chances are much higher. The Warriors were able to lead the series against the Clippers 3-1.
Regardless of the standings, the Warriors will be faced with a challenge against either of the teams. If they drop to the seventh or eighth seed, their chances of falling out of the playoffs is much greater. The Warriors need to stay focused on holding their spot in the sixth seed as they head into the postseason. It has been six years since the Warriors last appearance in the playoffs. This year, the Warriors will break that and the “We Believe” season will start once again. There are eight games left in the season, if they win five of them then they are guaranteed the sixth spot regardless of how the other teams play. Get your “We Believe” signs out, the playoffs are right around the corner and the Warriors will be making an appearance.
