After their immaculate game on Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors took on the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday night at the Moda center.
The Dubs were up for the majority of the game but things weren’t looking too good for them in the final quarter. However, the Blazers' sloppy passes caused multiple turnovers, which Golden State took advantage of. The Warriors were able to score the final seven points in the game, beating the Blazers, 95-90.
Golden State was able to push their record to 3-0 – the last time the Warriors began a season this well was during their 1994-95 campaign. However, the real story was Klay Thompson.
The young star had 41 points on 18 shots during the Dubs'victory against the Lakers on Saturday. On Sunday, Thompson added 29 points in the victory, and he sunk a clutch nine-footer in the final seconds of the game to give the Warriors the lead.
It’s impossible not to mention Thompson after the weekend that he had. The young star was named Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday, November 3 – the first time a Warriors player has earned NBA Player of the Week honors in the opening week of the season since Tim Hardaway in 1994.
In the first three games of the 2014-2015 season, Thompson has averaged 29.7 points, 3.0 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 35.3 minutes. Let’s not forget that he also signed a max contract extension with the Warriors on Friday.
Thompson has always lived in Stephen Curry’s shadow as the other Splash Brother...but with Thompson leading the league in points thus far on 54% shooting, he’s all anyone is able to talk about right now. Now that Thompson is being paid max money, the Warriors and their fans are expecting a lot from the second splash brother, and so far he’s been surpassing expectations.
Currently, I’m just wishing that I had a chance to pick him for my fantasy league…
