Golden State started 2014 with a win. After ending the year with a 94-81 win over Orlando, the Warriors beat the Miami Heat on Thursday 123-114, and as Warriors announcer Jim Barnett said, it was as easy as “1, 2, 3.”
The Warriors are back; not only are they on a seven game winning streak—the longest streak since 2005 for the Warriors and the longest current winning streak in the NBA this season—but they’re also finally playing like a team.
Just a few games ago, the Warriors seemed to be a one, maybe two-man team. If Andre Iguodala or Stephen Curry were missing from a game, the Warriors seemed to go into a bit of a panic. Don’t get me wrong, there were many times when they played exceptionally well without one of their star players, but the majority of the time they couldn’t hold their own.
During Tuesday night’s game, the Warriors bench showed just how important they are to the team and on Thursday David Lee took the reigns. Lee played one of his best games of the season, dominating the court with 32 points (on 13-17 shooting) and 14 rebounds. Stephen Curry led all players with 36 points and 12 assists, Klay Thompson had 16 points and Harrison Barnes added 15 points.
As @Warriorsworld tweeted, “#fullsquad”. The hashtag has made quite the impression on Dub Nation, and Golden State has proven just how good they can be when their original starting five—dubbed the “best starting five in the NBA”—are healthy and playing well.
Golden State plays their fourth game of their seven-game road trip in Atlanta against the Hawks on Friday night, hoping to increase their winning streak to eight.
