The Warriors fell to the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night. The final score was 94 to 82. The Spurs will advance to the Western Conference Finals against the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Warriors have had an amazing season. After six years—sans playoffs— the Warriors were able to make it to the Western Conference semi-finals.
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, also known as the “Splash Brothers”, have officially made a name for themselves in the NBA. Curry and Thompson were unstoppable from the three-point line; however, it seemed that during the last few games of the semi-finals the “Splash Brothers” were unable to make it “splash”. Regardless, these young guards carried the team.
Stephen Curry had a remarkable 2012-2013 season. He has accomplished an astonishing amount this season at the young age of 25. He is the first player since Tim Hardaway in 1991, to average 23 points and 8 assists in the playoffs. During the regular season, Curry broke the NBA record for most 3-pointers in a regular season beating Ray Allen’s record of 269. Curry finished the regular season with 272 three-pointers. During the playoffs, Curry broke the franchise record for most three-pointers in the playoffs by beating Jason Richardson’s 29 three-pointers by 15; Curry ended with 44 three-pointers.
At the young age of 20, (yes, TWENTY!), Harrison Barnes broke records as a rookie. Barnes is the first rookie to average 16 points and 6 rebounds in over 10 playoff games since David Robinson in 1990.
The Warriors big men have played an extremely important part this season. Bogut was missing most of the regular season, but he made up for it in the playoffs. During Game 1 of the first round, David Lee was said to be out for the rest of the season due to an injury. Bogut began to become the player that we had all been waiting for. He averaged 7.7 rebounds per game. In Game 6 of the first round against the Denver Nuggets, Lee unexpectedly returned to the court and riled up the crowd in order to win Game 6 and advance to the second round. He has since played in the last three games of the semi-finals and is said to require surgery on his torn hip flexor during off-season.
As a veteran, Jarrett Jack was able to contribute to the Warriors this season. He was the man on the court with the most experience. He led the team. Each Warrior contributed to the Warriors golden season, whether it was Draymond Green with his astounding defense or Kent Bazemore cheering his heart out on the sideline. Let’s not forget about the most important piece to the Warriors puzzle: head coach Mark Jackson.
The Warriors have had a remarkable season that the Bay Area will not forget anytime soon. Warriors’ fans shouldn’t be sad that this season is over, they should be proud of the Warriors and all of the accomplishments that they have made this season. Get ready Warriors’ fans because you won’t want to miss the Warriors 2013-2014 season. The Warriors can only improve with such a young team.
