This offseason, Chat Sports is bringing you all the latest Golden State Warriors rumors and speculation.
As we reported a few weeks ago, the Warriors are seriously considering buying out 2012 draft pick Ognjen Kuzmic's contract so he can join Golden State in time for preseason.
Kuzmic previously maintained that he wanted to stay in Europe for at least a few more years, but in an interview last week with Bosnian paper Avaz, he seemed to have changed his stance:
"I really do not know what will happen. But I'm ready for all options, stay in Malaga and play in the Euroleague or, if there's an agreement between the clubs, go [to the NBA]."
As it stands, the Warriors would have to pay at least half of Kuzmic's €800,000 buyout clause to bring him over this season (the player generally pays the other half). That's a fairly high price for a player with limited Euroleague experience, but Golden State is clearly intrigued by Kuzmic's upside.
A 7'1 big man with quick feet and surprising agility, Kuzmic would provide valuable depth in the Warriors' front line - especially given Festus Ezeli's absence (Ezeli underwent surgery to support his knee ligaments, and could be out until January or February) and Andrew Bogut's injury history.
The Warriors have yet to open negotiations with Unicaja Malaga, Kuzmic's club, but according to the latest rumors, they're strongly considering moving on Kuzmic in the next few weeks. Kuzmic's willingness to play in the NBA sooner rather than later could motivate the Warriors to make a move soon - we'll make sure to keep you posted on any further developments.
