As the Golden State Warriors get ready for their first preseason game versus the Los Angeles Lakers this Sunday, Warriors fans will be able to witness the new team take court for the first time this season. Contain your cheers Warriors fans; Andrew Bogut will not be present for the preseason games. But, wait a few more weeks and Bogut will be making his long awaited debut on October 23 against the Phoenix Suns for the Warriors season opener.
Rather than expecting to see the Warriors starters making their debut, it’ll be more like the Warriors bench making their debut. But don’t go and cancel the recording for Sunday’s game; the Warriors have a dominant bench that will surely be entertaining to watch.
Warriors’ returning players Charles Jenkins and Richard Jefferson along with newly acquired veterans Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry are bound to make an impression this Sunday. Although we probably won’t see anything new from these four, their talents are impressive enough. While Bogut is out, Biedrins is most likely to be taking the center spot with his wacky free throw shot that makes us all squint in agony. Biedrins excels in rebounding and protecting the basket and with these skills is able to make for a relatively suitable backup for Bogut, but let's hope that he isn't needed too often. Then there is Kent Bazemore and Jeremy Tyler, don’t count them out just yet. There has been talk that these two will be sent down to the D-league once the season starts, but with preseason coming up, these two will have their chance to prove just how worthy they are of being in the NBA. And lets not forget the rookies; they will be making their NBA debut on Sunday also. We may even witness Harrison Barnes snatching the starting forward position from Brandon Rush. As of now, the Warriors have a stacked bench ready to play.
So, should we all really be as excited as we are about the Warriors this year? Answer: YES.
With the season opener approaching in a few weeks, the Warriors are not to be overlooked. Maybe I am biased because I am a Warriors fan, but I genuinely believe that they are playoff worthy.
They have an outstanding starting lineup with Stephen Curry (PG), Klay Thompson (SG), Harrison Barnes or Brandon Rush (SF), David Lee (PF) and Andrew Bogut (C). This is their best starting lineup since the 2007 playoffs. (Go ahead and disagree with me, but just wait until the end of this season). The Warriors finally have a full team. Each position has a solid player as well as a suitable backup. It’s going to be a little rough at first, working all the kinks out and figuring out exactly how to play together, but Warriors fans, I think we’re looking at an extended season… maybe into June? We shouldn’t think too far ahead but it’s a nice thought, isn’t it?
