The Golden State Warriors have had the best record in the NBA for the most of the season, and they've clinched the top seed in the Western Conference. Golden State has maintained their high level of play, and made several "statements" this month as a result. As we head towards the postseason, what have we learned about the Warriors this month?
3) Stephen Curry should be the MVP
The MVP race has suddenly turned into a four player competition (Curry, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and LeBron James), but Curry proved this month that he deserves the award. Not only is he the best player and driving force behind the only team in the league with 60 wins, he's recorded two 30-point, 10-assist games over his last three outings and has done that more times this year than anyone else in the league. Westbrook's triple-double streak came and went, and Curry is still the frontrunner.
2) The Hawks can't compete with the Warriors
Atlanta has clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference, and many think the Warriors could end up facing them in the Finals. Golden State is hoping the happens because they've shown they're the far superior team (and because they'd avoid the Cavs and a much tougher series). The Warriors' 19-point blowout victory over Atlanta showed the Hawks won't be a real threat to them.
1) Golden State should win the Western Conference
Every other team in the league has shown serious flaws or gone through a bad stretch during the season except for the Warriors. Even in the stacked Western Conference, every team has injury concerns (Oklahoma City, Portland), chemistry questions (Dallas, Houston), are too one-dimensional (Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis), or old (San Antonio) - except for the Golden State.
The playoffs will still be extremely tough for the Warriors because all of those teams are good teams, but Golden State clearly separated themselves during the regular season. It's time for them to prove it in the postseason.
