Shreveport -- West Monroe senior quarterback Jon Randall Belton was carried off of the field in the first quarter at the Independence Bowl Friday night after suffering an lower leg injury. West Monroe officials later said the injury was to Belton's ankle.
West Monroe was playing Lufkin (Texas) in the Landers Battle on the Border event in a showcase of some of Louisiana's top teams playing against squads from Texas, Arkansas and Alabama.
Belton scrambled on third down of West Monroe's first possession and was brought down from behind by a Lufkin defender who appeared to roll up Belton's leg.
