Four days after winning their season opener against Lamar, the men’s basketball team headed to Knoxville for a battle with No. 5 Tennessee. The Vols were heavily favored, of course, but it was nevertheless a chance for a young team to make an early statement in Josh Pastner’s third season.
It... didn’t quite work out. The Jackets had an atrociously bad day on the offensive end, shooting just 27.6 percent on field goal attempts and 15.8 percent from three-point range, and dropped the road contest 66-53.
Tennessee was excellent defensively, particularly on the interior, and that forced Tech to settle for three-pointers and midrange jumpers often throughout the game.
