The Jackets started this season healthy, with all projected starters a go save for tackle Chris Griffin who underwent knee surgery in the spring. Unfortunately the injuries have begun to pile up as Tech enters the meat of their schedule.
The recent development for second string QB Tim Byerly is not great. Byerly only appeared in the Alcorn State contest, but has only been seen on the sidelines on crutches since. He recently had surgery to repair a knee and head coach Paul Johnson called him “probably through” for the season.
While Byerly is a senior, he can apply for a medical hardship redshirt and may gain another year of eligibility.
