In what seems to be a Justin Thomas highlight reel, Georgia Tech’s hype video embellishes last year’s Cinderella story; finishing eighth in the final edition of rankings — officially entered the poll in November, ranked 24th — with an 11-win 2014 campaign.
The last time the Yellow Jackets accomplished an 11-win season requires a hop in the time machine to 2009 when backfield prodigy Johnathan Dwyer rushed for 1,395 yards and 14 touchdowns and quarterback Joshua Nesbitt accumulated over 2,700 all-purpose yards and 28 total touchdowns (18 rush TDs).
With a roster deep at running back — which featured seven rushers (including QB Justin Thomas) over 200 yards and three touchdowns in 2014 — the Yellow Jackets were also helped out defensively (LB Davis – 119 tackles, CB White/DB Golden – 4 INT each) to counteract the offensive output.
