DURHAM, N.C. —
The charitable view of Georgia Tech’s all-systems failure at Notre Dame was that it was specific to that Saturday in South Bend. Tough opponent, tough place to play and a few calls that didn’t go its way added up to a tough day.
The view was different in Durham on Saturday. It showed a deeply-flawed football team whose hopes for a special season were extinguished with a 34-20 loss to Duke. It’s clear now that Paul Johnson’s triple offense didn’t just have an off day against a very good Notre Dame defense but rather can’t do much of anything against a defense that isn’t bad.
