ATLANTA – Georgia State junior defender Alex Summerfield was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Summerfield netted the only goal in GSU’s 1-0 victory over in-state rival Mercer Saturday night, extending the Panthers’ win streak to six games – a feat the program accomplished for the first time in over 30 years.
The Billingshurt, England, native also helped Georgia State pitch two consecutive shutouts and became the first Panther to score goals in back-to-back matches since Hannes Burmeister in 2017. Summerfield’s goal against Mercer was his second of the season, tying him for the most goals on the team this year.
