BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Georgia State was defeated 5-1 at Samford Sunday afternoon to wrap up the Samford Classic. Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader was cancelled due to rain.
The Panthers got strong pitching performances from starter Savannah Freeman and reliever Mandy Chance as the duo combined to allow just one Samford hit through 4.2 innings. Samford finally broke through with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to take a 4-1 lead.
Georgia State had multiple chances on offense, but was unable to find the big hit and stranded 10 runners on base.
