ATLANTA – Playing in its sixth-straight Sun Belt Conference Championship Game, No. 2-seed Georgia State fell to No. 1-seed Coastal Carolina on penalty kicks on Sunday afternoon at Center Parc Stadium.
After both teams went scoreless through 110 minutes of action, Coastal Carolina (6-1-1) outscored Georgia State (9-2-2) 4-3 in penalty kicks and will now advance to the NCAA Tournament in the spring.
The Chanticleers outshot the Panthers 18-16 as Georgia State played a man down the final 73 minutes of the game after senior George Proctor, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year and Sun Belt Defender of the Year, received a red card.
