ATLANTA -- Georgia State's Elian Merejo is the Sun Belt Baseball Player of the Week after going 7-for-11 with two homers, two doubles, seven RBI and seven runs scored to lead Georgia State to a 3-0 start under first-year head coach Brad Stromdhal. The Panthers swept three games against 2019 NCAA Regional team Cincinnati, St. John's and Saint Peter's and Merejo figured prominently in all three wins.
The senior designated hitter from Orlando, Fla., also walked five times in the three games, including three intentional walks.
In the Opening Day win over Cincinnati, the Bearcats took the lead with four runs in the third, but in the bottom half, Merejo responded with a two-run blast to cut the deficit to 5-3.
