Georgia State Falls to Coastal Carolina in PKs in SBC Tournament Championship

BOONE, N.C. – After both sides remained deadlocked at one goal apiece through two overtime periods, Coastal Carolina edged past Georgia State men's soccer 6-5 in penalty kicks in Sunday's Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship, ending the Panthers' run at back-to-back conference titles and trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Despite the loss, GSU had a successful 2019 campaign filled with history. The Panthers (12-4-4) enjoyed the best start in program history at 6-0-3, surpassing the previous school record of seven straight matches without a loss to start a season set in 1967. On Sunday, GSU made its fifth straight appearance in the SBC Tournament final, the first school to achieve that mark since South Alabama in 1991-95.
