BOONE, N.C. -- Georgia State opened Sun Belt action with a thrilling 2-1 win in overtime Thursday at Appalachian State.
The Panthers overcame a slow start in the rain as the Mountaineers found a goal just before halftime to lead 1-0 at the break. GSU was just five minutes from defeat when Jolie Ryff received a pass from Ana Diaz and beat the keeper to even the game at 1-1 in the 85th minute.
The first 10-minute period of overtime produced nothing to separate the two sides. In the 104th minute, Liz Fogarty, who scored the first goal of the season for GSU last Friday at Mercer, made a run between two Appalachian State defenders and Lexie Knox found the open Fogarty who went far-post to find the back of the net and win it for the Panthers.
