CONWAY, S.C. - Savannah Freeman had an excellent game in the circle for Georgia State Friday in Conway, but host Coastal Carolina won the pitchers' duel 1-0 to begin Sun Belt Conference play.
Freeman went the full 6.0 innings and held Coastal Carolina to just one run on four hits. The redshirt freshman struck out seven and walked three.
Coastal Carolina pushed across the game's only run in the fifth inning, assisted by a pair of errors on the Panther defense.
The Panthers and Chanticleers will continue the three-game series with Game 2 Saturday at 2 p.
