STATESBORO - The sixth year of the Miriam Burnette Striking Out Alzheimer's softball tournament, hosted at the Georgia Southern Softball Complex on July 25-26, was a success as the event raised more than $25,000 for the Coastal Georgia Alzheimer's Association.
The two-day event featured 18 high school teams from around the southeast and south central Georgia area and despite weather issues, more than 30 games were played during the tournament.
Georgia Southern head softball coach Kim Dean was excited to be a part of the tournament, knowing the importance of taking a leading role in the Statesboro community just a couple of months into her first season with the Eagles.
