STATESBORO - South Carolina notched a 3-0 win over host Georgia Southern on Wednesday night in its first trip to Statesboro since 2013.
The Gamecocks improved to 9-1 with the win, while Georgia Southern moved to 5-5. The Eagles will host the 2023 GATA Challenge on Friday through Sunday, February 24-26 as North Carolina A&T and Middle Tennessee come to Eagle Field for tournament action.
South Carolina opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning as Zoe Laneaux laced a double to right field, plating a pair for a 2-0 advantage.
Georgia Southern threatened in the bottom of the fifth inning as Katie Perkins and Brooke Kell each drew walks, giving the Eagles a pair of runners on with one out, but Donnie Gobourne recorded a strikeout, and after a single by Emma Davis, the Eagles' Chandler Caldwell was cut down at third base to end the inning.
