STATESBORO - Appalachian State's Haley Stewart drove in the winning run in the top of the eighth inning to give the Mountaineers a 6-5 Sun Belt Conference extra-inning softball victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon at Eagle Field.
The Mountaineers (13-6, 3-0 SBC) completed the conference series sweep of the Eagles (13-10, 0-3 SBC) as both teams opened up league play this weekend. Georgia Southern returns to action on Wednesday, visiting the University of North Florida for a 5 p.m. non-conference contest against the Ospreys in Jacksonville.
"Obviously, it's not how we wanted to start conference play," Georgia Southern Head Coach Kim Dean said.
