NEW ORLEANS, La. – On Monday afternoon, the Sun Belt Conference announced that Mason McWhorter has been selected as the 2020-21 Male Athlete of the Year.
McWhorter becomes the second Georgia Southern student-athlete to earn this honor, following golfer Steven Fisk in 2019. He is the first baseball player to earn the award since South Alabama's Kevin Hill in 2016.
Born in Cumming, Georgia, McWhorter completed his fifth season in Statesboro – and has started nearly every game during his five-year career. McWhorter broke the school record for doubles (67) and ranks in the top-5 in multiple statistical categories during his time at Georgia Southern.
