The drunk driver who killed former Georgia Southern linebacker Edwin Jackson in February was sentenced on Friday, as first reported by the Indianapolis Star.
Manuel Orrego-Savala was sentenced to 16 years in prison for killing Jackson and Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe on Feb. 4.
Orrego-Savala, 37, was inebriated with a blood alcohol content level above 0.15 the night of the crash and plead guilty to drunk driving in July. In addition to the charges related to the fatal accident, Orrego-Savala faces charges of re-entering the country illegally.
Jackson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Indianapolis Colts in 2015 and started all 16 games for the Colts in 2016 recording 66 tackles and two sacks.
