STATESBORO, Ga. - With two teams battling for their first Sun Belt Conference men's soccer tournament title on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field, it was the top-seeded Georgia State Panthers who made plays late to claim a 4-2 victory over host Georgia Southern and advance to the NCAA Championships.
Georgia Southern (7-7-3) trailed 1-0 at the break, but scored twice in the second half to take a 2-1 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the contest. Georgia State (11-6-2) quickly tied up the match by converting a penalty kick in the 75th minute, then Tournament MVP Hannes Burmeister scored the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute, completing his hat trick and sending the Panthers to the title.
