STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern cheer team won its sixth national championship, and the first in the Co-Ed division, at the National Cheerleaders Association National Championship Friday in Dayton Beach, Florida.
After nine years of coming close, the squad won its first NCA Coed Intermediate I National Championship, besting three-time national champion Michigan and East Carolina University for its first National Championship.
The team is led by senior Massey Swanson, along with a mixture of veterans and first-year cheerleaders.
"The one thing that made this team different was the energy they displayed while performing a difficult routine," said coach Barry Munkasy.
