Georgia Southern and Georgia State spent Thursday watching the rain fall as the first game of their regular season-ending series was postponed. The teams returned to J.I. Clements Stadium bright and early for a doubleheader Friday with the Eagles notching a 6-0 win in the opener before the Panthers held on for a 5-4 win in the second game to earn the split.
The Eagles (32-23, 15-14 Sun Belt) entered the day having already qualified for next week’s conference tournament in San Marcos, Tex. Georgia Southern could still finish anywhere from fourth through seventh in the final standings, depending on today’s series finale and several other Sun Belt contests.
