STATESBORO - Sophomore Faith Phillips' shot from distance took a deflection and skipped past the Texas State goalkeeper to give Georgia Southern a 1-0 Sun Belt Conference overtime victory on Friday evening at Eagle Field.
The win keeps the Eagles (9-4-2, 4-1-1 SBC) unbeaten at home this season with a perfect 5-0 record, while Texas State falls to 6-6-1 overall and 3-4 in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern will next face Louisiana on Sunday at Noon in Sun Belt action at Eagle Field.
Georgia Southern held a slim 8-7 edge in shots at the half, but neither team could find a quality chance in the first 45 minutes.
