BOONE, N.C. – The Georgia Southern baseball team defeated the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Friday at Smith Stadium, 7-6 in the opening game of a three-game conference series.
App State wasted no time getting on the board, as they loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first and took an early 3-0 lead.
The Eagles scored one run in the top of the third inning when a Christian Avant sacrifice fly to right-center field scored Parker Biederer, cutting the lead to 3-1. A Noah Searcy RBI single bounced off the pitcher to get away from the infielders and scored Jason Swan to cut App State's lead to one.
