STATESBORO – The 25th-ranked Georgia Southern baseball team came back from a late deficit to defeat the South Alabama Jaguars, 5-4, to open up the series at Eddie Stanky Field Friday evening.
Georgia Southern (25-12, 12-4 SBC) got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning when a Christian Avant RBI-double plated Jesse Sherrill, and a Noah Ledford RBI-single brought Avant home.
South Alabama (22-14, 9-7 SBC) cut the Eagles' deficit in half in the bottom of the third inning when a Jaguar runner scored on an Eagle error.
