STATESBORO - Smith Cathey's goal in the 70th minute snapped a 1-1 tie and gave Georgia Southern women's soccer a 2-1 Sun Belt Conference victory over visiting South Alabama on Friday evening at Bo Pitts Field.
The Eagles (6-9-1, 3-4 SBC) snapped a two-game slide with the victory and also downed South Alabama (9-5-1, 4-2-1 SBC) for just the second time in program history and the first time since 1996. Georgia Southern returns to action on Thursday, traveling to Georgia State for a 7 p.m. matchup against the Panthers.
Georgia Southern got on the board early in the fifth minute.
