STATESBORO - Georgia Southern tallied a pair of first-half goals to notch a 2-0 Sun Belt Conference women's soccer win over visiting Appalachian State on Senior Day, Sunday at Eagle Field.
The win pushed the Eagles (4-3-5, 3-1-2 SBC) above .500 for the year but more importantly, picked up three more points in the Sun Belt standings. Appalachian State fell to 3-7-4, 2-4 in the Sun Belt. The Eagles will return to action on Sunday, October 16, hosting Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m.
Freshman Carley Borgelt got the scoring started for the Eagles as her shot from long range, off of a layoff by senior Isabel Kopp, took a deflection off of an App State defender into the net in just the eighth minute of the match.
