STATESBORO - Coach Brandon Bailey was preparing for his first 2023 spring practice at Buffalo when the news broke that Georgia Southern would have an opening at the defensive coordinator spot. With Will Harris taking a job in the NFL, Eagle head coach Clay Helton had to fill his spot, and quickly. Bailey's dream job was open and he had to act quickly. As Bailey recalls, he connected with Coach Helton that weekend and was on a plane the next day for an interview before taking to position quickly after. He returned back to Buffalo to say his goodbyes and was back in Statesboro a few days later to try and install as much of the defense as he could before Georgia Southern was to begin its spring session.
