Georgia is set to take on Nicholls State on Saturday to open the home portion of the 2016 season. The Colonels, from Thibodaux, La., have won a combined 19 games in the past eight seasons and have had a losing record in 23 of the past 27 seasons.
In other words, they are anything but a high-profile opponent.
The matchup was the main topic of a Georgia Bulldogs podcast co-hosted by Dan Mathews of GN and Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.
Why is Georgia playing an FCS school such as Nicholls State?
“It gives those kids an opportunity to play in a venue that they don’t get to (normally) play in,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said early this week.
