Unproven UGA wide receiver group still ‘growing’

Georgia’s wide receiver corps has plenty of potential but not many proven players.

The No. 1 target from last season, now NFL rookie Malcolm Mitchell, accounted for nearly half of Georgia’s receptions by wide receivers–46.4 percent.

The top returner at the position, sophomore Terry Godwin, drew criticism from coach Kirby Smart this week.

The leading returning receiver after Godwin is Reggie Davis, who had 12 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown, but had a critical drop of a would-be touchdown in a 38-31 loss to Tennessee.

“We’re a growing group of receivers,” sophomore Michael Chigbu said.
