UGA survives scare to eke out 26-24 victory over FCS Nicholls State

If there was a honeymoon period for Georgia first-year coach Kirby Smart, it probably ended somewhere during the second quarter Saturday in Sanford Stadium when his team was getting outplayed at home by Nicholls State. Yes, Nicholls State.

If not then, certainly it was after David McKey’s extra point just cleared the cross bar to give a 53-point underdog a one-point lead on the No. 9 Bulldogs with 6:48 to go in the third quarter.

Or maybe when the Bulldogs had looked like they had regrouped and were ready to close out a win but, no, the adventure was still not over.
