On the same day the SEC announced a waiver for Maurice Smith to allow him to play this season for Georgia as a graduate transfer, the former Alabama defensive back met with his new teammates.
It happened Friday night in a team meeting.
“He stood up and told us he was ready to work and we all welcomed him in,” junior safety Dominick Sanders said.
“Everybody was like, `What’s up?’ And introduced themselves,” inside linebacker Reggie Carter said.
The welcome, according to Sanders, included some applause for Smith.
“Having him on that defense, it gets us hyped up,” Sanders said.
