Georgia inside linebacker Reggie Carter missed practice time last week after a concussion but was cleared to play Sunday at South Carolina and would have been used in an “emergency” situation, according to coach Kirby Smart, but never got in the game.

That meant starters Natrez Patrick and Roquan Smith–the team’s leading tacklers this season with 36 and 33 tackles, respectively–just about maxed out on snaps, Patrick said, but there was an upside to that.
