UGA announces plan to rename Sanford Stadium after legendary coach Vince Dooley

Sanford Stadium, the iconic 89-year-old crown jewel of Athens, Georgia, is set to receive an additional name come football season.

The 92,746 seat home of the Georgia Bulldogs is modifying its name to honor the legendary coach Vince Dooley.

Pending approval from both the university and the University System of Board of Regents, the name will be changed to Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium.

A ceremony has been planned for September 7th, Georgia’s first home game of 2019, to welcome the new name.

“Coach Dooley’s many contributions to this university can be seen across campus,” Georgia president Jere Morehead said in a UGA release late Thursday morning.
