Two Georgia Bulldogs: safety J.R. Reed and running back D’Andre Swift have been named semifinalist for national awards. Reed is leading the Dawgs’ elite defense, while Swift is gashing defenses and is currently second in the SEC in rushing yards.
Reed is among the semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is given annually to the best defensive player in the nation. The Maxwell Award is given to the best offensive player in college football. It is commonly given to the runner-up to the prestigious Heisman Trophy. The Georgia Bulldogs official Twitter announced the news for Reed and Swift:
Reed has 34 tackles on the season, half a sack, a forced fumble, and an interception.
