Georgia sophomore left tackle Andrew Thomas, one of the best offensive linemen in the nation, went down with a sprained ankle against South Carolina last week.
However, UGA’s line did not miss a beat in protecting quarterback Jake Fromm and opening up running lanes for the backs.
And that’s because freshman tackle Cade Mays, who came in to replace the injured Thomas, showed why he was regarded as one of the country’s most coveted recruits.
Mays absolutely dominated against the Gamecocks solid defensive line, and today against Middle Tennessee, with Thomas still nursing his ankle, Mays is expected to make his first career start.
