There are two lines of thought when you are looking for an assistant coach position on the staff. Is the person the best coach, or the best coach for what you need? Searels was probably not the trendy hire you may have thought of when Matt Luke stepped away, but he has a track record of coaching up offensive linemen that do what’s needed.
That, of course, includes his time in Athens, where he did elevate the offensive-line play, but some of that may have been overexaggerated by Knowshon Moreno, depending on who you talk to fan-to-fan.
At the end of the day, one thing to watch Saturday is if Oregon has success getting to Stetson Bennett and clogging running lanes is how quickly Searels adjusts.
