“The preparation is about over.”
For some reason, that phrase has stuck with me all these years, and I smile every time the words come to mind. It was a Friday morning in November 1980, and I was on a balcony of old Memorial Hall in the heart of the Georgia campus talking with Earl Fales, a faculty member and wonderful mentor to decades of PE majors and future coaches (of which I was one).
We had just finished up a square dancing class (more on that in a minute), and stood perched only a few yards from Sanford Stadium discussing the next day’s big game.
