Richt is 145-51 in his Bulldogs tenure; they beat Georgia Tech 13-7 on Saturday to improve to 9-3 this season.
Speculation immediately has centered on Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart — a Georgia alum — as a potential replacement.
While Richt has averaged almost 10 wins per season during his tenure, Georgia hasn’t won an SEC title since 2005. And the Bulldogs have played for the SEC title just twice since then.
The SEC East inarguably has been down the past three seasons, yet Georgia has not benefited. Missouri won the division in 2013 and ’14, and Florida — under first-year coach Jim McElwain — won the division this season.
